The Senior DevOps Toolchain Engineer is the subject-matter expert within Altenar of the processes and tools that enable development teams to support multiple work streams and achieve quality in the delivered features. The role leads the short-term improvement and support and the long-term evolution of the tools supporting code creation, review and quality assurance and the systems building, storing and publishing software artifacts. The role needs strong social skills as it involves a lot of interaction with Software Development teams and Automation/Infrastructure teams.
The role shall possess all the skills necessary to a) understand the SDLC and code branching model / repository organization required for each Altenar product b) support the Software Development teams by providing code repo management c) create and manage the infrastructure and scripting required to build code , package it into artifacts, and provide it for deployment via automated pipelines d) enter into proof-of-concept/research on new tools that may be required with new projects, and manage onboarding effectively. The role is part of a team and is a very important part of our DevOps practices at Altenar. We are looking to grow our team and welcome candidates who have experience in this area in large software projects.
Must have
- Degree in a related major (Engineering / CS)
- Proven system administration experience in heterogeneous environments (Windows / Linux with RPM package management predominantly)
- Scripting skills (bash, powershell, python or other)
- Strong understanding of a variety of topics such as code versioning, semantic versioning, merge conflict, code tagging, feature branching, audit trails, authentication, automated deployment
- Proven experience in at least one major build and packaging system
- Experience in the setup of CI/CD in at least one organization
- Excellent knowledge of git and advanced manipulation of branches/patching/rollback
- Strong research and validation skills
- Strong coaching and presentation skills
- Deep understanding of development team practices
- Excellent documentation skills. Fanatical at capturing unstructured feedback, concerns
- Logical, critical-thinker, able to change perspective
- Self-driven, and able to work with local and remote stakeholders
- Able to communicate properly in English (both verbal and written)
Nice to have
- Experience with container-based deployment workflows
- Experience with different build and packaging systems, and strong grasp of dependency management
- Experience with the Azure DevOps stack
- Experience with Jfrog Artifactory, SonarQube, Sentry
- Strong systems engineering background
